Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston visited the Guru Har Krishan Gurdwara in Oadby on Friday 23rd November, to join in celebrations to mark the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Guru Nanak was the first Guru of the Sikh faith, born in 1469 in Kartarpur which now forms part of Pakistan.
During the visit, Neil heard recitation of prayers and addressed the congregation to share his best wishes, before partaking in a communal meal with worshippers known as langar.
Neil said, “I never fail to be impressed by the warm welcome and generosity each time I’ve visited the Gurdwara in Oadby. This was my first visit on the Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, which was incredibly interesting to see and learn more about.
The Sikh community in my constituency and across the wider Leicestershire area make a huge contribution in a number of fields, and it was a pleasure to be able to join them on this important day and take part in the celebrations”
