Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, is seeking to arrange an urgent meeting to discuss the future of the 33 and 44 services which currently serve the Harborough area.
The local bus service is operated by Centrebus and currently receives a subsidy from Leicestershire County Council. The County Council are currently reviewing where subsidies are issued with a view to make savings to the operating costs across Leicestershire.
Neil O’Brien said, “I know from conversations with local residents, particularly pensioners, that the services are incredibly helpful to them and are heavily relied upon to get around the town and travel from villages.”
“I am seeking an urgent meeting with both Centrebus and the County Council to look at ways we can keep a scheduled service and find a creative solution to this problem.”
“I would really encourage all bus users and people who care about this service to take part in the Council’s consultation on this before 13th June to ensure their voice is heard as part of the process.”
The consultation closes on the 13th June and can be found here: https://bit.ly/2GtmPJT
