Neil O'Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston joined participants of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme in Harborough to see one of their social action projects.
As part of the project, students from Robert Smyth Academy were on site at 'The Cube' youth centre in Market Harborough, assisting with a range of improvements. This included the erection of a new basketball hoop, clearing the gardens and painting the interior walls.
Neil said, "I've met quite a few of the NCS participants over the last year and have always been impressed by their enthusiasm and energy. They're keen to make a difference, which is exactly what they were doing at the Cube - something that will benefit many people who regularly use the facilities.
Participants are taught a range of skills, including how to develop and lead projects as well as working alongside others as part of a team. I'd certainly encourage anyone who is interested in the programme to look at enrolling and taking advantage of the scheme."
