Neil O'Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby & Wigston, attended the official unveiling ceremony of the the Sikh War Memorial statue in Leicester, on the 30th October 2022.
Neil was joined by local Councillors, Cllr Kamal Ghattoraya (Oadby Grange Ward) and Cllr Rani Mahal (Glen Ward); both of their fathers were part of the Sikh regiments within the British Army.
Neil said, "It was a pleasure to attend, and hear more about the incredibly bravery and courage shown by the Sikh soldiers in both World Wards. In World War 1 alone, this stood at in incredible 100,000 personnel.
They fought valiantly to protect and defend the freedoms we enjoy today, so it was great to see so many people coming together from all different walks of life to recognise and commemorate this with this wonderful memorial."
The statue was installed in Leicester City, between Victoria Park and De Montfort Hall.
